Highlights

We began with a discussion about what it means for an argument to be valid. Ben explained the difference between “support” and “prove.” He added that the strength of an argument depends on the strength of its premises and conclusion: stronger evidence and weaker conclusions make for stronger arguments.

The Egocentric Children question prompted a discussion about normative vs. descriptive claims and the meaning of “the only.”

The Festival Committee question was a little tricky because two answer choices confused necessary and sufficient conditions—one was a mistaken negation and the other a mistaken reversal.

We also discussed the correlation-to-causation flaw, which appeared in a couple of the questions.

Students love Ben!
