Highlights

As co-founder Nate says, there are infinite ways to be stupid—but one seems to pop up more often than others on this test. Today’s class focused on the logical flaw of confusing a necessary condition (the thing that has to be true if the sufficient condition is true) for a sufficient condition (the thing that’s enough, or sufficient, to prove the necessary condition). No diagramming required! In a student’s words, “Understanding is king/queen.” Francesca did the first and third question storytime-style, and students helped out with the second question. In the final question she explained in detail how she handles logic-y passages involving multiple interlinking variables and how she moves these passages from the realm of abstract logic to the realm of common sense.
