Highlights

Max walked the class through 3 LR questions (Test 16, Section 3, Q2 — AstronomersTest 40, Section 3, Q18 — DramaTest 16, Section 3, Q26 — Labor tax).

Some students in the class had a hard time deciphering a flaw answer choice that said the author confused an absence of evidence for an evidence of absence. We discussed how having a concrete example of each type of flaw that you can easily refer back to helps you translate the words they use into something much easier to wrap your head around. For this flaw we used the “black swan” problem: no matter how many white swans we find (absence of evidence of black swans), that doesn’t mean we have proven that black swans don’t exist (evidence of absence). Once we translated the answer choice’s wording into an example, it became much easier to see that the argument committed the same flaw.
