Week 3: Slow Down to Speed Up

  • Speed vs. Accuracy
  • Training, not Studying

Reading Comprehension

Test 110, Passage 2 — Blues and Spirituals

Test 110, Passage 3 — Lamarck’s hypothesis

Highlights

Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast on the LSAT! We must take our time to really engage and understand the passage in order to confidently eliminate wrong answer choices. Beatriz read the first passage story-time style to the class to demonstrate how to do just that. The class read the second passage independently to put practice into action, and then we re-grouped as a class to tackle the thorniest questions. We also touched on changing your mindset about science passages, if you don't particularly love them. The LSAT is testing common patterns in Reading Comprehension, regardless of what "type" of passage it is. Learn to love what you are reading, and in true lawyer fashion—do not give up until you understand the words on the page!

Beatriz Garcia

LSAT Tutor

After being out of school for almost a decade and having a defeatist mentality of "not being good at standardized tests," Beatriz felt wary about taking on the LSAT. However, once she discovered the Thinking LSAT podcast, she took on a new perspective about conquering this test. Beatriz believes that anyone can slay the LSAT--all you need is a bit of common sense and a dash of swagger!
